Atemoya has a juicy and smooth texture, with a sweet and tart flavor profile reminiscent of vanilla. Many people compare the taste to piña colada. The taste is similar to cherimoya yet sweeter and more flavorful. 

Scientific Name: Annona x atemoya, annona squamosa x annona cherimolla 

Also Known As: Pineapple sugar apple, anón, chirimorinon, achta, stafeli dogo 

When/ How to Eat: Atemoya is ripe and ready to eat once there is browning on the skin and the skin softens. Push your finger down and pierce the skin, you can then peel the skin and consume the flesh. Be sure to remove the seeds. 

Where is Grows: We recommend you replant the seeds to grow your own tree. Atemoya trees thrive in the tropics, best when planted in zones: 10b to 13a. Fun Fact: Atemoya is a man made cross between the Cherimoya, native to the Andes mountains, and the Sugar Apple, native to the Caribbean. Atemoya was created at the Miami USDA lab in 1908 and from there spread to growers throughout the world.
