Caimito has a juicy and jelly-like texture that is smooth and thick. The taste is reminiscent of that of a lychee, apple, and grapes, with hints of citrus.

Scientific Name:Chrysophyllum cainito

Also Known As: Cainito, star apple, golden leaf tree

When/ How to Eat: When ripe, caimito turns a dull purple/greenish color and becomes extremely soft and slightly wrinkly. To eat the fruit, cut it in half and scoop the flesh out with a spoon. When cut, notice the star shape appearance on the inside, where the fruit gets its name from. ***Please note, when the fruit is not ripe it's inedible because of the gummy latex found in the flesh so please ensure the fruit is ripe.***

Where it Grows: Caimito is native to the West Indies and Central America. The plant may be grown from zones 10b-11. To grow the seed soak it in water for max 24 hours then place into a small pot of soil.
