Star fruit has a sweet and tart flavor with a floral essence. The flavor is similar to a mixture of pineapple, grape, pear, with citrus notes. Its texture is juicy and succulent like that of a grape.

Scientific Name: Averrhoa carambola Also Known As: Carambola 

When/ How to Eat: When ripe, the fruit develops a bright yellow color with a greenish tint along with slightly browned edges. The fruit has an edible skin; therefore, you can go ahead a slice into it. When cut, the fruit slices should resemble a star.

Where it Grows: Star Fruit is native to Southeast Asia and can be grown in USDA zones 9 to 11. We recommend planting the seed found within the fruit flesh so you can grow your own tree!
