Passion fruit has a jelly like yellow flesh surrounding its edible black seeds. It has a delicious citrus like aroma, with its sharp sweet tart flavor it can be compared to a yellow kiwi.
Scientific Name: Passiflora edulis
Also Known As: Grenadelle, Grenadine, Passionflower, Purple granadilla, or Purple passion fruit
When/ How to Eat: You can determine the ripeness of a passion fruit by its deep purple or red color. When ripe, the skin of the fruit should become somewhat wrinkly. You can pierce the fruit with your thumb and suck out the jelly like substance.
Where it Grows: We recommend you plant the fruit seeds to grow your own vine. Passion fruit is native to South America and can be grown in USDA zones: 9 through 11.
